COURSE DESCRIPTION: Training starts in our classroom where our instructor teaches the kids about firearm safety rules and their proper safety sequence. We then use lecture, visual aids and instructor demonstrations to teach the kids how to hold (grip), stand, aim and fire the semi-auto pistol using inert plastic training firearms. Then we have the conduct practical exercises using plastic inert training firearms to better learn the skills before we head to the range. Total classroom time is roughly 45 to 60 minutes.
Once on the shooting range the instructor will teach the kids how to load a semi-auto pistol magazine, how to insert the magazine into the pistol and how to chamber a round. The instructor then fires the first several rounds to demonstrate how slowly and smoothly the trigger must be pressed and how the proper grip and stance controls the pistols recoil.
At that point, the instructor teaches the kids how to manipulate the semi-auto pistol to make it clear and safe. The kids will then conduct practical exercises in making the pistol safe using real, BUT UNLOADED pistols under the close supervision of the instructor while in their assigned shooting stall. Once that task is completed, the instructor(s) takes each kid, one at a time, and individually supervise them as they fire their first round on their own. The same task is conducted a second time, but two rounds are fired. Once all the kids are comfortable, the courses of fire then begin requiring more and more accuracy, and the kids begin loading and unloading on their own. By the end of the lesson your kid will have a practical understanding of firearm safety and marksmanship. In fact, we are confident they will be as proficient as most adults who have a CPL (concealed pistol license).
