Low Light / Flashlight Skills

Seats are limited and are secured on a first-come, first-served basis (no walk-ins allowed).

4-hours - classroom and low-light range live fire / 10 seats available NO WALK-INS ALLOWED. Students must have a valid CPL.

COST: $125 per student, ALL INCLUSIVE Students will be provided with flashlights, weapon-mounted lights, S&W M&P 22 pistols and ammunition for use. Students may also bring their own handguns, flashlights, and ammunition (100 round minimum) but use during live-fire will be subject to instructor approval.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Most Violent crime occurs during hours of darkness, but most CPL holders have never trained in low-light defensive shooting. Knowing how to properly manipulate a flashlight can help deter a potential criminal attack. If a CPL holder is forced to shoot, avoiding criminal charges or civil damages requires positive target identification.

We will cover flashlight applications such as searching, navigating, threat identification, control and communication. The course will explore considerations when selecting a flashlight for concealed carry, home defense or weapon mounting. This includes specifics such as switch/activation systems, rechargeable vs disposable batteries, and output measurements (lumen or candela.) Quality flashlights can be expensive. This is an opportunity to try a variety of lights and determine what best suits your needs before making an investment.

Students will learn specific handheld flashlight techniques such as Harries, Rogers/Surefire, Ayoob, FBI technique, Neck Index and other variations in conjunction with inert blue training pistols. They will then have the opportunity to shoot live-fire, in a low-light environment, while demonstrating safety, proper tactics, and positive target identification.

Students will also be instructed in the use of weapon-mounted lights on pistols and have the opportunity to shoot with this system in darkness/reduced light.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Students must possess a valid Michigan CPL to attend this course. Eye and ear protection is provided, but students often perform best when using their own equipment.
